It's a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon here in New York City, and what better way to spend it than watching YouTube clips of performances from Broadway musicals of the late 90s. Here are two videos we had never seen that we'd like to share with you.
The first is the opening number of Ragtime on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Remember that show?! It was the perfect after-school treat, especially since she loves musicals and always had them perform on her show. And she always gave away awesome prizes to the audience! Remember Tickle-Me-Elmo day? Madness. But anyway- RAGTIME. It is still incredible to think that Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin Mazzie, and Audra McDonald sang THAT music together about THAT time period about THOSE issues, all on the same stage. To those of you who saw this live, we commend you. We would need to be pulled out of the theatre on stretchers after a show as absolutely incredible and heartbreaking as that one.
The second one is from a show that deals with different, but no less serious issues than Ragtime. Ladies and gents, here's Sam Harris singing the best song from Grease, "Those Magic Changes." Unfortunately (fortunately?) until now, we were not informed musical theatre fans and had no idea his name was Sam Harris and that his choreography was so adorable. But we DID know that his tone was pleasant and amazing and that he could belt notes way higher than we could.
